Gatsby Gal® Oakleaf Hydrangea

$16.95Price

This plant is available for pre-order, with spring 2026 delivery. Come in 4" pot.

Gatsby Gal® is a compact native oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) that delivers huge cone-shaped white blooms on a smaller, more manageable plant. Unlike the larger oakleafs, this one stays tidier and denser, making it perfect for foundation plantings, cottage gardens, and elevated landscape design. Its bold, oak-shaped leaves provide structure all summer, then ignite into brilliant shades of burgundy, mahogany, and wine-red each fall. Strong native genetics mean excellent disease resistance, good drought tolerance once established, and solid deer resistance at maturity.

Zones: 5–9

Sun: Part sun to full sun (morning sun + afternoon shade preferred)

Height/Spread: 4–5 ft tall × 4–6 ft wide

Bloom Time: Early to mid-summer

Color Notes: Pure white panicles aging to soft parchment tones

Soil: Moist, well-drained; benefits from organic matter

Water: Moderate; keep evenly moist while establishing

Growth Habit: Compact, dense, very floriferous

Maintenance: Blooms on old wood; prune only immediately after flowering if needed

Deer Resistance: Good once mature

Disease Resistance: Excellent—native quercifolia foliage performs beautifully through summer

Best Uses: Foundation plantings, borders, woodland edges, four-season landscapes, smaller gardens
