Need year-round color without planting another ordinary green evergreen? Soft Serve® Gold brings bright golden foliage, soft texture, and four-season structure to the garden.
It has a naturally graceful, pyramidal habit and finely textured foliage that almost looks fern-like. The gold color is especially striking against hydrangeas, roses, burgundy foliage, and darker evergreens.
Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8, it matures at about 6–10 feet tall and 5–6 feet wide. Plant it in sun to part sun; the best golden color develops with good sunlight. It prefers moist, well-drained soil, especially while becoming established.
Soft Serve Gold works beautifully as a specimen, in foundation plantings, mixed shrub borders, or repeated through the landscape for rhythm and structure.
One of its best qualities is that it keeps working when the flowers are finished. In winter, when much of the garden has disappeared, you still have color, shape, and texture.
